When you run the Log in to Email command to automate Gmail tasks, you might see this error:
Username and Password not accepted ...
Don’t worry — nothing’s wrong with your account or your workflow. Google has simply changed the way third-party apps (like Octoparse AI) can connect.
What happened?
Starting January 2025, Google no longer allows sign-ins with just a username and password for Google Workspace accounts. (Check official google notice here)This means some third-party apps or tools that send your regular Gmail password directly will be blocked.
Instead, you now need to log in with an app-specific password, which is a special 16-character key you create in your Google Account.
How to fix the login issue?
Step 1 – Turn on 2-Step Verification
Go to your Google Account security settings.
Enable 2-Step Verification. (This is required before you can generate an app password.)
Step 2 – Create an app-specific password for Octoparse AI
In your Google Account settings, search for “App Passwords” — this is the quickest way to find the page.
Set the app name, then click Create.
Google will generate a 16-character password.
Step 3 – Save it
This password will only appear once, so copy it somewhere safe.
This password grants full access to your account — so keep it private.
Step 4 – Log in via Octoparse AI
In the Log in to Email command, enter your Gmail address and paste the app-specific password instead of your normal one.
✅ That’s it!
You should now be able to connect Octoparse AI to Gmail without any login errors. Once connected, your automated workflows involving Gmail should run smoothly.
💡 Tip: You can test the connection right away using our sample workflow, with just 5 lines of commands:
