If you receive the error message "The Octoparse AI web automation extension is not enabled" while running a task—even if you have already installed and activated it—the issue is typically caused by a communication barrier between your browser and the desktop client due to system permission restrictions. Please follow this step-by-step guide to resolve the issue.
Step 1: Basic Checklist (Quick Fixes)
Before moving to deeper technical solutions, please verify these basic configurations:
Verify Activation: Type
chrome://extensions/in your Chrome address bar. Ensure the Octoparse AI extension toggle is switched ON.
The "Restart" Method: Completely close your Chrome browser and the Octoparse AI desktop client. Relaunch both to refresh the connection between them.
Step 2: Clean Reinstallation
If basic checks fail, please try installing extension or client again.
Reinstall the Extension: Remove the extension from Chrome. Go to the Chrome Web Store or go to the "Browser Extension" shortcut within the Octoparse AI client to reinstall.
Or Reinstall the Desktop Client: Uninstall the current client via the System Control Panel. Visit the Official Download Page to download and install the latest stable version.
Step 3: Deep System Diagnosis (The Core Cause)
If the error persists after a clean reinstall, the root cause is likely related to OS-level permission conflicts.
These restrictions prevent the browser extension from communicating with the desktop software. If you have reached this stage, please proceed to the recommended solution below.
Step 4: Install the Official Fix Patch (Recommended)
To address the permission conflicts identified in Step 3, our technical team has developed a specialized Beta Fix Version designed to bypass these registry/permission hurdles.
