To help Octoparse AI run web automation tasks smoothly on your computer in Google Chrome browser, you’ll need to install and enable the Octoparse AI Web Automation Extension in it. This extension acts as a bridge between the software and your browser, allowing Octoparse AI to click, scroll, and extract data from websites on your behalf. Without it, Octoparse AI won’t be able to control Chrome locally, so setting it up is an essential step before you get started.

There are two ways to install the extension: automatic installation (which we recommend for most users) and manual installation if you prefer to do it yourself or encounter issues with the automatic option.

The easiest way to set up the extension is by letting Octoparse AI handle it for you. To begin, make sure you close Chrome completely. This ensures the installation runs smoothly and avoids conflicts if Chrome is already open.

Next, open Octoparse AI and head to the Extensions section under Tools from your avatar menu in the top-right corner.

There you’ll see the option for Google Chrome Automation. Simply click Install and let the process run.

Once installation finishes, reopen Chrome, type chrome://extensions into the address bar, and enable Developer Mode. You should also see the Octoparse AI Extension listed here—just make sure the toggle is switched on.

When everything is set, you’ll notice the Octoparse AI icon appear next to your Chrome address bar. That’s the sign your extension is ready to go.

If for any reason the automatic method doesn’t work, you can still install the extension manually. Start by downloading the extension file to your computer.

After the file is saved, open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions. Enable Developer Mode and, simply drag and drop the .crx file you downloaded into the Extensions page.

Chrome will ask if you’d like to add the extension—click Add extension to confirm. Once added, make sure the Octoparse AI Extension is turned on. Again, you’ll see the small Octoparse AI icon appear near your address bar once the setup is successful.
